Yarra Ranges National Park protects cool temperate rainforest, old mountain ash and the headwaters that supply Melbourne's drinking water. Because it is a catchment, most of the park is closed to the public; the open pockets — around Warburton and Mount Donna Buang in the south-west, and Marysville, Lake Mountain and Cambarville in the north-east — hold the waterfalls, the rainforest walks and the snow. It is a day-trip park: no entry fee, no camping inside, and the nearest beds are in Warburton, Healesville and Marysville.

When is the best time to visit Yarra Ranges National Park?
October to April for walking, with April and October the sweet spot for clear weather and good waterfall flow. June to August is snow season on Mount Donna Buang and Lake Mountain, when roads can close. Summer weekends are the busiest — arrive before 10:00.
Can I camp in Yarra Ranges National Park?
No. There is no camping inside the park. Sleep in Warburton, Healesville or Marysville and drive in for the day.
