Rajapalayam
Half a day as a food stop between Madurai and Courtallam: eat biryani and parotta, then move on. Not a base.
Rajapalayam is a small industrial town in Tamil Nadu's Virudhunagar district, set at the foothills of the Western Ghats. It has no major sights of its own but sits on the route between Madurai (75 km) and Courtallam Falls. Most travellers stop for a meal of local biryani and parotta, or to buy mangoes in season. The town is also known for the Rajapalayam dog breed, but that is a niche interest. One hour is enough; plan your onward journey.
