Quarteira
Base here 3–4 nights for a flat beach town with cheaper beds than Vilamoura next door; skip if you want cliffs, old-town lanes or nightlife.
Quarteira is a working fishing town and beach resort in the Algarve, a civil parish of Loulé with about 22,000 residents. It sits on a wide, flat seafront promenade, and the upmarket Vilamoura resort with its 845-berth marina is a 4–5 € taxi ride west. Beds cost less than in Vilamoura or Albufeira, the sand is broad and clean, and Faro airport is about 20 minutes by road. It is a base for beach days, golf and boat trips, not a sightseeing town.

Get around
The town is flat and walkable; the promenade runs the length of the beach. Vamus Algarve buses link Quarteira with Vilamoura, Loulé, Faro and Albufeira. Taxis wait in the centre; Vilamoura is about €4–5. Loulé railway station is a few km inland with connecting buses. Car hire is available in town if you want the rest of the Algarve.
