Puyallup is a suburban town of about 42,000 people in Pierce County, 10 miles east of Tacoma and 35 miles south of Seattle. Its one big draw is the Washington State Fair, 17 days each September; the rest of the year it works as a cheap, quiet base for Mount Rainier day trips and as a stop on the Sounder commuter line. Driving is the easy way in and around.

Get around
A car is the practical choice: Meridian Ave runs north–south through downtown to South Hill, Pioneer Way is the east–west link. Pierce Transit buses 400, 402, 409 and 425 cover the town and Tacoma; the Sounder S Line commuter train runs to Tacoma and Seattle on weekday mornings and back in the afternoon, plus some game days.
