Give Purbalingga one night as a base for Owabong and the Purbasari aquarium, or skip it and day-trip from Purwokerto, 30–40 min away.
Purbalingga is a small Central Java town on the southern slope of Mount Slamet, known for its waterpark, aquarium and eyelash factories. Most travellers pass through on the way to the Dieng Plateau or use it as a cheap stop between Purwokerto and Banjarnegara. Two nights is enough for the town and its family attractions.
