Puncak
Go for 1–2 nights midweek only: the pass is a 2–3 h crawl from Jakarta on weekends, and one full day covers the tea estates, Telaga Warna and Taman Safari.
Puncak is a mountain pass on the Bogor–Cianjur road, about 1,500 m up, where Jakarta families keep villas for the cool air. It is a weekend-and-holiday destination, not a sightseeing city: tea plantations, a coloured crater lake, a drive-through zoo and presidential gardens sit along one congested main road. Two nights midweek is enough; a weekend trip mostly buys traffic.

Get around
A car with driver is the practical choice: the main road is one lane each way and frequently jammed, and drivers overtake on blind bends. Expect to pay about Rp100,000–150,000 per day on top of the rental for a driver. Angkot minivans run along the main road with no fixed stops — raise a hand — and ojek motorcycle taxis cover the last few km off the main road for roughly Rp10,000–20,000; Gojek and Grab bike apps work here.

Scams and watch-outs
- Weekend and holiday traffic on the Jakarta–Bogor–Puncak corridor can add hours; police sometimes impose one-way flow for 1–2 h and then reverse it.
- Ignore men along the road offering 'shortcuts': the side routes are usually slower and villages on them may demand money or damage the car.
- Ojek fares rise when the road jams, exactly when you want one.
- Mountain roads are foggy and wet in the rainy season; landslides close sections of the Puncak road in bad years.
- Alcohol is limited to larger hotels and resorts; do not count on a bar scene.
The main risk is the road, not crime: chaotic driving, blind-corner overtaking and weekend gridlock. Landslides and flash floods close the Puncak road in the wet season. Petty scams exist around the tea estates and safari car park — agree prices before you start.
