Pucón
Go for 2–3 nights if you want the Villarrica volcano climb or hot springs; skip in Jan–Feb if you dislike crowds and peak prices.
Pucón is a small lake-district town under an active volcano, 1 h 30 min by road from Temuco. It works as a base for the guided Villarrica climb, Huerquehue National Park and hot springs. Two or three nights covers the main outings; the town itself is walkable and the agencies on every corner sell the same trips.

Get around
The centre is small enough to walk; cycle lanes run along the main road. Colectivos and small buses cover nearby spots, and taxis handle out-of-town trips such as the ski area. For Huerquehue and the termas, buses leave from the main bus station — check times the day before.
