Princess Anne
Give Princess Anne half a day: walk the historic core and tour Teackle Mansion, then sleep in Salisbury 15 min away.
Princess Anne is a 1733 county seat of about 3,300 people on Maryland's Eastern Shore, 15 minutes south of Salisbury off US 13. There is no single blockbuster sight: the draw is a compact grid of 18th- and 19th-century houses, churches and a courthouse, plus the Teackle Mansion. Most travellers see it as a two-to-three-hour stop between Salisbury and the lower shore, or as a quiet overnight in a small B&B.

Get around
A car is the practical choice: US 13 runs past town and everything else on the lower Eastern Shore is a drive away. The historic centre itself is small and flat, and Somerset Avenue has bike lanes and sharrows, so walking or cycling covers the sights in an hour or two.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake and 'hi, how are you?' — reply 'good, thanks'; avoid: Treating the question as a real health enquiry
- Restaurants: Tip 18–22% and wait for the check; avoid: Leaving without tipping
- Personal space: Keep an arm's length in queues; avoid: Standing close to strangers
- Politics and religion: Listen more than you speak; avoid: Opening with hot-button topics
- Smoking: Smoke only in marked areas; avoid: Smoking near doors or in parks where banned
Scams and watch-outs
- Teackle Mansion tours run only April–December, Wednesday and weekend afternoons; it closes in winter — check before you drive out.
- Restaurant and shop hours are short and often close by mid-afternoon; do not count on a late dinner in town.
- Cell coverage and fuel are sparse on the back roads toward Deal Island and Smith Island — fill up in Salisbury.
A quiet small town and generally safe to walk in daylight. The real issues are driving: deer and farm equipment on dark two-lane roads, and long gaps between services.
