Prince Frederick
Give Prince Frederick one night, or use it as a lunch-and-swamp stop on the drive between Washington and Solomons: two sights, no town centre to wander.
Prince Frederick is a small Calvert County crossroads on MD-4, about an hour's drive south of Washington, DC. There is no rail and no walkable downtown of sights: you come by car for a cypress swamp boardwalk, a riverfront history park and crab cakes, then move on to Solomons or Point Lookout. Two nights is the ceiling unless you are visiting family.

Get around
You need a car. MD-4 runs north–south through town and MD-2 branches north toward Annapolis; there is no useful local bus for visitors and no rail. A Maryland Transit Administration commuter bus connects the area with Washington, DC on weekdays — check current routes and times before relying on it. Distances between the swamp, the park and the restaurants are 10–25 min by car.
