Half a day is enough: walk Old Poway Park, hike the Blue Sky Reserve, then eat. Not a base — use it as a stop between San Diego and North County.
Poway calls itself 'The City in the Country' and lives up to it: wide roads, ample parking, a preserved 1880s park and a network of hiking trails in the Blue Sky Ecological Reserve. Most visitors pass through on the way to or from San Diego (30 min drive) or use it as a quiet overnight stop. The food scene is solid but small — Luna Grill and Villa Capri are the standouts. One night covers it; a day-trip from San Diego works too.
