Portaria
Πορταριά
Half a day is enough for Portaria: walk the cobbled square, eat mountain lamb, then hike to Makrinitsa or Chania. Not a base — sleep in Volos or a coastal village.
Portaria is a stone-built village on the slopes of Mount Pelion, 12 km from Volos. Its main square, shaded by plane trees, is the hub for a meal and a short walk. Most travellers use it as a lunch stop or a trailhead for hikes to Makrinitsa (3.5 km) or Chania (8 km). One night works if you want a quiet mountain evening; otherwise, a half-day visit covers the essentials.
