Port Sunlight
Go for a half day from Liverpool: 15 min by train, free gallery, £8 museum. Sleep here only for the Leverhulme or a quiet night.
Port Sunlight is a late-19th-century model village built for Lever Brothers soap workers, with around 900 listed buildings, the Lady Lever Art Gallery and the Sunlight Soap Museum. It is small and walkable, about 15 minutes by train from Liverpool, so most visitors see it as a half-day trip rather than a base. Stay one night only if you want the hotel and spa or an early start on the Wirral.

Scams and watch-outs
- Parking near the Lady Lever Art Gallery is free but very limited; use the train if you can.
- Sunlight Soap Museum opening days are limited and change by season; check current days and hours before you travel.
- Village walking tours run on set days and times and are best booked ahead.
- Some village buildings are private homes and offices: keep to the paths and don't photograph through windows.
A quiet residential village. The practical risks are traffic on the A41 and Bebington Road, uneven pavements, and rain — carry a coat and watch for cars at crossings.
