Go for one night in July–August if you want a beach day plus the heritage train; skip it as a base — London or St. Thomas works better for more than two nights.
Port Stanley is a village of about 2,100 people on Lake Erie, 42 km south of London and 15 km south of St. Thomas. It has a large sandy beach, a refurbished pier with a lighthouse, a summer theatre and a heritage railway. Almost everything sits within walking distance of Main Street and the harbour, so one night covers the core and two nights covers a relaxed beach stay. It is a summer place: the beach and the train run mainly July–August, and the west-side parking charge applies May–September.

Get around
The village core is walkable: Main Street, the lift bridge over Kettle Creek, the pier and the beach are all within about 20 minutes on foot. A car is needed for Moore Water Gardens and for day trips; Dockside Cabs covers short local hops. Parking on the east side of the harbour is free; on the west side it is free 1 Oct–30 Apr and charged in season.
