Port Renfrew is a village of about 144 people at the end of Highway 14 on the west coast of Vancouver Island, on the traditional territory of the Pacheedaht First Nation. People come for the Juan de Fuca Trail, Botanical Beach tidepools, old-growth trees and salmon and halibut fishing. It is small, wet and remote: two nights covers the coast and the big trees, and you need your own car.

Get around
You need a car. There is no local transit and no taxi. Fuel up in Sooke or Lake Cowichan before you arrive: there is no gas station in the village. Gravel logging roads to Avatar Grove and the Red Creek Fir are rough and often single lane.

- Logging trucks have right of way on active gravel roads.
