Port Lavaca
Half a day: see the lighthouse and walk the causeway. Not a base unless you fish or need a cheap motel on the South Barrier Coast.
Port Lavaca is a small coastal town on Matagorda Bay, best known for the relocated Halfmoon Reef Lighthouse and as a budget stopover between Corpus Christi and Houston. The bay draws anglers and birders, but the town itself has limited dining and sights. Most travellers use it for a quick break or an overnight on a Texas coast road trip.
