Port Harcourt is the capital of Rivers State and the centre of Nigeria's oil industry, a humid Niger Delta city of about 3.3 million people. Most travellers pass through for business or a Delta side trip rather than a holiday: the sights are thin, the rain is heavy from April to October, and the useful base is GRA or Trans Amadi. Two nights covers the Pleasure Park, a market and a boat out to the creeks.

Get around
No useful metro or tram: taxis, ride-hailing apps and private cars do the work. Fares are negotiated or app-set; agree the price before you get in. Roads clog at rush hour and flood in heavy rain. Boats from the Marine Base waterfront and Bonny Jetty serve the creeks and Bonny Island.
