Poompuhar is a small coastal town at the mouth of the Kaveri River in Tamil Nadu, known as the ancient port of Kaveripoompattinam. The main draw is the beach. Most travellers stop here for an hour or two on the way to Mayiladuthurai or Tranquebar.
