Podor
Half a day to a full day: walk the riverbank, see the fort, then move on. Not a base.
Podor is Senegal's northernmost town, a quiet river port on the Senegal River with a ruined French fort and a relaxed pace. Most travellers stop for a few hours on the way to or from Saint-Louis, or use it as a launch point for village visits along the river. One night is enough if you want to catch the sunset over the river.
