Pleasant Point
Skip Pleasant Point unless you are a railway enthusiast or want to see where Richard Pearse may have flown before the Wright Brothers. A 30-minute stop on the way to or from Lake Tekapo is enough.
Pleasant Point is a small South Canterbury town on State Highway 8, best known for the Pleasant Point Museum and Railway and the nearby Richard Pearse Memorial. Most travellers pass through on the way to Lake Tekapo or Timaru. The town itself has one B&B and a handful of basic services. A half-hour stop for the railway and the memorial covers the sights.
