Plattsburgh is a small Lake Champlain city in New York's North Country, about an hour south of Montreal and the main service town for the Adirondack Park's eastern side. Downtown is compact and walkable, with a historic district, two War of 1812 monuments and a lakefront path. Get around
Downtown is walkable in decent weather, and the Amtrak station is about a quarter-mile from the centre. The airport and the Greyhound stop are both over 2 miles out, so plan a taxi. Clinton County Public Transit runs buses linking downtown, SUNY Plattsburgh and the Cornelia Street plazas. Taxis work on a zone system with posted rates and must be called rather than hailed.
