Pittsburg is a Delta-edge suburb in the Outer East Bay, about 45 minutes by BART from Oakland and 1 hour from San Francisco. Its steel mill closed in 2023, and the draw now is a compact Old Town strip of 1920s buildings, a restored 1920 theatre, a marina and a handful of long-running restaurants. It is a half-day, not a trip: most travellers pass through on the way to Antioch or Brentwood, or use it as a cheaper bed than Walnut Creek.

Get around
Tri Delta Transit runs the local buses and links downtown, the malls and the BART stations. BART covers Pittsburg Center and Pittsburg/Bay Point, with a direct line to Oakland and San Francisco via a MacArthur transfer. Taxis exist but cannot be hailed: call ahead, and rates are fixed by city ordinance. A car is the practical choice for the marina, Century Plaza and day trips along Highway 4.
