Pitești

Pitești is the capital of Argeș County and the last big town on the A1 before the Carpathians, about 110 km northwest of Bucharest. It is an industrial city with a small, walkable centre, a heavy 1950s prison history and a large oak forest inside the city limits. Most travellers pass through by train or car; a half-day or one night is enough to see what matters.

Get around
The centre is small enough to walk: Victoriei Street, Vasile Milea Square and the Argeș promenade are all within about 20 minutes on foot. For Trivale, the zoo or the stations, use the city bus network (14 lines); bus 2 is the longest route at about 40 min end to end. Taxis and ride-hailing are cheap; agree the fare or use the app meter.
