Pioche is a former silver-mining town of about 1,000 people and the Lincoln County seat, on US-93 between Las Vegas and Ely. It sits at roughly 1,850 m, so summers are far cooler than Las Vegas and winters bring snow. The draw is a compact historic Main Street, a museum, Boot Hill Cemetery and two state parks within a short drive. There is no public transit and no airport: you need a car.

Get around
Walk the downtown blocks; a car is required for the state parks, the cemetery and anything outside the centre. There is no public transit and no taxi rank to rely on. Fill the tank in town before heading out: the next long stretches of US-93 have no services.
