Pewsey
Half a day is enough to see the White Horse and walk the village; add an evening for the carnival if you are here in September.
Pewsey is a large Wiltshire village on the Great Western main line, an hour from London Paddington. Its main draw is the Pewsey White Horse, a prehistoric chalk figure on the hill south of the village, and the annual carnival in September with its pub races and procession. Most travellers use it as a short stop between London and the West Country or as a base for walking the Vale of Pewsey.
