Pétion-Ville is the hillside suburb southeast of Port-au-Prince where most of the capital's hotels, restaurants and galleries sit, and where diplomats and business travellers stay. It is quieter and better policed than the city centre, but it is still greater Port-au-Prince: read your own government's travel advice before booking anything, and plan movement by car in daylight.

Get around
Tap-taps (pickup trucks) run fixed routes for about G10 per leg, but you need several to cross town and they are hard to read without Creole. Taxis are around G500 in daylight; after dark fares rise sharply and risk rises with them. A hotel-arranged car or driver is the cautious option many visitors choose, especially for evening meals and airport runs. Traffic in and out of Pétion-Ville is heavy most of the day.
