Pemuteran
Stay 2–3 nights if you dive or snorkel Menjangan; otherwise 1 night as a west-Bali stop between Lovina and Gilimanuk.
Pemuteran is a north-coast fishing village turned dive base, 45–60 min east of the Gilimanuk ferry and about 1 h 15 min west of Lovina. Its pull is the Biorock reef just off the beach and Menjangan Island inside West Bali National Park. The village is one long strip along the Singaraja–Gilimanuk road: resorts and dive shops face the sea, farms and temples sit behind. It is expensive by Bali standards, and the main road is loud.

Get around
No sidewalks and heavy motorbike traffic on the main road; most visitors walk the beach side or rent a scooter (agree the daily rate and helmet first). Bemos run the north-coast road but are slow and crowded. For Menjangan, boats leave from Labuhan Lalang, about 15 min west by road.

Scams and watch-outs
- The main road has no sidewalks and motorbikes sometimes ride against the flow; walk facing traffic and carry a light at night.
- Menjangan Island and national-park entry need a permit bought at the park office at Labuhan Lalang; arrange it before you board.
- Dive and snorkel trips are weather-dependent: Dec–Feb swells can cancel Menjangan crossings.
- Cash is king in the village; ATMs are few and can be empty. Bring rupiah from Lovina or Gilimanuk.
- Rates quoted in US dollars or euros at resorts are usually paid in rupiah at the day's rate — confirm which currency is charged.
Pemuteran is calm and low-crime; the real risks are the unlit main road with no sidewalks, scooter crashes, and strong currents or boat cancellations in the wet season. Use reef-safe sunscreen and do not stand on coral.
