Pelkosenniemi
Base at Pyhä resort, 24 km from the village: 2–3 nights in winter for skiing and auroras, 1–2 in summer for the fells and mires.
Pelkosenniemi is Finland's least populated Lapland municipality, about 950 residents, and most of what visitors come for sits at Pyhä: the fell resort and Pyhä-Luosto National Park. The parish village itself is a 10-minute stop — a 1929 wooden church, a mire trail and a grocery store. Come for the fells, the amethyst mine and quiet, not for a town.

- Mobile data: 4G from Elisa only in the village and on approach roads; no DNA or Telia signal.
Very safe. The real risks are cold, distance and empty roads: tell someone your route, carry a charged phone and a power bank, and do not rely on one mobile network.
