Pawapuri
पावापुरी
Half a day is enough: visit the Jalmandir temple and the Gaon Mandir, then move on to Rajgir or Bodh Gaya. Overnight only if you are on a Jain pilgrimage.
Pawapuri is the place where Mahavira, the founder of Jainism, attained nirvana and was cremated around 500 BC. The main sight is the Jalmandir, a marble temple built on an island in a lotus-filled tank created by the removal of soil from the funeral pyre. The town is small and quiet; most visitors come as a day trip from Rajgir (38 km) or Patna (101 km).
