Patiala is a former princely capital in Punjab's Malwa belt, about 60 km from Chandigarh and 260 km from Delhi. Its draw is compact: the Qila Mubarak complex, the Baradari Gardens with their heritage hotel, Sikh gurdwaras, and the jutti and phulkari workshops that supply the Punjabi diaspora. Rail links are weak, so most visitors arrive by road from Chandigarh or Ambala.
