Pasuruan
Skip Pasuruan town as a base: use it as a 1-night rail stop for Candi Jawi and Taman Safari, or day-trip from Surabaya or Malang.
Pasuruan is a small East Java town on the Surabaya–Malang–Banyuwangi rail line, with a colonial-era core, a 1700s mosque and a snack trade built on rice jipang. The real draws sit outside town: the 13th-century Candi Jawi and the Taman Safari park at Prigen, and the bathing site at Belahan near Gempol. Most travellers pass through on the way to Bromo or Ijen; one night is enough, and only if you want the temples.

Get around
The town is small enough to walk between the station, the mosque and the market. For Candi Jawi, Belahan, Prigen and the safari park you need a car, a rented scooter or a hired driver — public transport does not reach them usefully. Trains link Pasuruan with Surabaya, Malang, Probolinggo and Banyuwangi.
