Paso Robles is a small Central Coast town, about 30 mi (46 km) north of San Luis Obispo, built on hot springs and wine: 200-plus wineries, most along Highway 46 east and west of town. Downtown is a compact grid of tasting rooms and restaurants; the vineyards are not walkable. Two nights is the useful minimum, three if you add Hearst Castle or the coast. A car is close to essential.

Get around
A car is the practical choice: wineries sit along Highway 46 east and west of town, 10–20 min apart, and there is no useful transit between them. Downtown is a walkable grid west of US 101 — Spring Street is the main street, numbered streets run south to north. Paso Express buses run about hourly on limited routes. Bikes work for downtown and Vine Street; the ride to Morro Bay over Santa Rita Creek Road is partly dirt and needs a mountain bike. Book a wine tour or designate a driver — tasting and driving do not mix.
