Parumala
Parumala is a half-day pilgrimage stop: visit the Mar Gregorios Orthodox Church, then move on. One night only if you are walking the November festival route.
Parumala is a small island town on the Pampa River in central Kerala, known as the burial site of Saint Geevarghese Mar Gregorios, the first declared saint of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. The church draws thousands during the November ormaperunnal (commemoration festival). Outside that, the town has little else for tourists — one temple, one bakery, one lodging. Most travellers use it as a short detour from Chengannur, Thiruvalla or Alappuzha.
