Give Parksville 2 nights in Jul–Aug for the warm shallow beach at Rathtrevor; outside summer it is a 1-night stop on the Nanaimo–Tofino drive.
Parksville is a small beach town on the east coast of Vancouver Island, about 30 minutes north of Nanaimo on Highway 19. The reason to come is Rathtrevor Beach: 2 km of sand and very shallow water that warms up in summer. It pairs with Qualicum Beach next door and works as a break on the drive to Tofino or Campbell River. Two nights covers the beach, the parks and the farm stops; one night is enough off-season.
