Park City, Utah
Give Park City 3 nights in winter (ski) or 2 in summer (hike, bike); stay on or near Main Street if you want to walk to dinner.
Park City is a former silver-mining town at 2,050–2,580 m on the back side of the Wasatch Range, 36 mi (58 km) east of Salt Lake City by I-80. It is a ski town first: two resorts, Park City Mountain and Deer Valley, plus the Utah Olympic Park four miles north. In summer the same lifts carry hikers and mountain bikers. The historic Main Street strip is walkable and the city bus is free, so a car is optional once you arrive.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake and 'hi, how are you?' — reply 'good, thanks'; avoid: Treating the question as a real health enquiry
- Restaurants: Tip 18–22% and wait for the check; avoid: Leaving without tipping
- Personal space: Keep an arm's length in queues; avoid: Standing close to strangers
- Politics and religion: Listen more than you speak; avoid: Opening with hot-button topics
- Smoking: Smoke only in marked areas; avoid: Smoking near doors or in parks where banned
Scams and watch-outs
- Altitude: town sits at 2,050–2,580 m — expect breathlessness and headaches for the first day or two; drink water and take it easy.
- Winter driving: Parley's Canyon on I-80 can close or require chains in storms; check road conditions before you set out.
- Sundance (late January) books out hotels within 30 mi (48 km) of town — reserve months ahead.
- Ski-season hotel rates run 2–3 times summer rates; summer condo check-in may be a lockbox with no front desk.
- Apr–May and Nov are mud season: many lifts, restaurants and shops close.
Park City is a low-crime resort town; the real risks are winter driving on I-80, altitude sickness on day one and unmarked ski terrain. Lock your car and gear at trailheads.
