Panipat
Panipat is a half-day stop for history buffs on the Delhi–Chandigarh rail line: see the battlefields and tombs, then move on. One night only if you need a cheap bed.
Panipat is an industrial city in Haryana that changed the course of Indian history through three decisive battles. The main sights — Kabuli Bagh, the Tomb of Ibrahim Lodi, Kala Amb and the Panipat Museum — can be seen in 4–5 hours. Most travellers use it as a rail stop between Delhi and Ambala or Chandigarh, not a base.
