Paltamo
Skip unless you have a specific reason to stop: a short break on the drive between Kajaani and Oulu, or a rail stop for the Kontiomäki junction. Half a day is enough.
Paltamo is a small municipality (population about 3,600) on Lake Oulujärvi, 37 km from Kajaani and 145 km from Oulu. It has a 1946 church, a grocery store and two railway stations. Most travellers pass through on Highway 22 or the E63. There is no major attraction that warrants a dedicated trip.
