Palafrugell
Base in Palafrugell for 2–3 nights to reach Calella, Llafranc and Tamariu by car or bus; skip it as a day trip from Barcelona (2 h 30 min each way).
Palafrugell is the inland market town of a municipality that owns three of the Costa Brava's best coves: Calella de Palafrugell, Llafranc and Tamariu. The town itself is a working Catalan centre with a cork museum, a market and cheap parking; the beaches are 3–6 km downhill. Two or three nights lets you see both without a car, more if you want the coastal path.

Get around
No train. Local buses link Palafrugell with Calella, Llafranc and Tamariu in summer; outside the season services thin out, so check times. A car is the practical choice for the coves, Begur and the inland villages. Parking in town is paid in summer; the Can Mario car park costs about €3/h, capped near €21.90/day.

- Sea urchin (garoina) is a winter dish: La Garoinada runs mid-January to end of March, not in summer.
