Page, Arizona
Give Page 2 nights: one for Antelope Canyon (permit + guide, book weeks ahead) and one for Horseshoe Bend and Lake Powell.
Page is a small Arizona town of about 7,200 people that sits between two of the Southwest's biggest draws: Antelope Canyon, a Navajo Tribal Park you can only enter on a guided tour, and Lake Powell, the reservoir behind Glen Canyon Dam. Almost everything here is outdoors, timed or ticketed, and reached by car. Two nights covers the core; three if you add a boat or a float trip. Summer heat and flash-flood closures are the two things that change plans.

Get around
You need a car. US 89 runs through town north–south; AZ 98 heads southeast. Antelope Canyon trailheads, Horseshoe Bend and the dam are 5–20 min by car. There is no useful public transit for visitors; taxis and rideshare are limited, so plan around your own vehicle or a tour pickup.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake and 'hi, how are you?' — reply 'good, thanks'; avoid: Treating the question as a real health enquiry
- Restaurants: Tip 18–22% and wait for the check; avoid: Leaving without tipping
- Personal space: Keep an arm's length in queues; avoid: Standing close to strangers
- Politics and religion: Listen more than you speak; avoid: Opening with hot-button topics
- Smoking: Smoke only in marked areas; avoid: Smoking near doors or in parks where banned
Scams and watch-outs
- Antelope Canyon is a Navajo Tribal Park: entry is by guided tour only, and a separate Navajo Parks fee applies on top of the tour price.
- Slot canyons flood: tours stop after rain upstream, sometimes for months. Never enter a slot canyon when rain is forecast.
- Summer afternoons regularly top 35°C; carry more water than you think you need.
- Horseshoe Bend has no shade and a steep 1.2 km walk in; the rim is unfenced.
- Cell signal is patchy outside town, including at the lake and canyon trailheads.
- Arizona does not observe daylight saving; Nevada and Utah do, so drive times shift by an hour across the state line.
Page is a small, low-crime town and the main risks are environmental: summer heat, unfenced canyon rims and flash floods in the slot canyons. A 1997 flood in Lower Antelope Canyon killed 12 hikers, and tours still stop after upstream rain.
