Ózd
Skip Ózd as a base unless you are tracing family or heavy-industry history: the film park and factory museum fill one day, and Miskolc is 53 km closer to everything.
Ózd is a former iron-works town in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County, one of the poorest in Hungary, 53 km from Miskolc. Its draw is a compact industrial-heritage cluster on Gyár út — a factory-history museum, a national film theme park and a digital exhibition in the old power plant — plus two medieval and Baroque churches in the outlying villages. Rail and bus both run about every two hours; the town is a day trip or a single night, not a multi-day stop.

Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Jó napot, handshake; avoid: First names with elders
- Names: Family name first when written; avoid: Assuming the second name is the surname
- Toasts: Eye contact; avoid: Clinking beer glasses with older people
- History: Listen; avoid: Joking about Trianon or 1956
- Home visit: Shoes off; flowers or wine; avoid: Refusing food repeatedly
Scams and watch-outs
- Some sights sit in outlying villages (Szentsimon, Sajóvárkony, Csernely, Sáta): check the bus line before you set out.
- The outdoor bath and camping run Jun–Aug only.
- Several restaurants close by mid-afternoon; plan lunch, not a late dinner.
- This is a low-income town with a shrinking population: keep to lit streets at night and do not leave bags in a parked car.
Ózd is a quiet, low-income town rather than a dangerous one; the practical risks are thin late-night transport, unlit side streets and closed kitchens after mid-afternoon. Standard city precautions are enough.
