Oyano
大矢野
Half a day: visit the Amakusa Shiro Memorial Hall, then cross the bridge to Amakusa proper. Not a base.
Oyano is the small island that serves as the gateway to the Amakusa islands, connected by bridge. Its main draw is the Amakusa Shiro Memorial Hall, which tells the story of the Shimabara Rebellion and Christianity in Japan. Most visitors stop for an hour or two on the way to Amakusa.
