Ostend is a North Sea port and beach city of about 70,000 people in West Flanders, 15 minutes by train from Bruges and 40 from Ghent. It works as a one-night seaside stop or a day trip from Bruges. The seafront, the Mercator ship and the Mu.ZEE art museum sit within a 20-minute walk of the station, and the Kusttram runs the length of the Belgian coast.

Get around
The centre is small: station to beach is about 15 minutes on foot. Rent a bike near the station (about €9 per day, check) or take De Lijn buses 5, 6 and 39 along the seafront. The Kusttram stops at the station and along the beach and runs the whole coast from Knokke to De Panne.
