Oshawa is a city of about 160,000 on Lake Ontario, 50 km east of Toronto, built on a century of car manufacturing. Its draw is small and specific: the Canadian Automotive Museum, the McLaughlin estate at Parkwood, a military museum and the lakefront. Most travellers see it as a half-day stop on the Toronto–Kingston corridor, not a destination in itself.

Durham Region Transit (DRT) buses cover the city; fare about $4 cash or Presto card (check). Downtown is walkable, but the airport museum and Darlington park need a car or taxi. GO Transit trains run to Toronto; VIA Rail stops at Oshawa GO station for Kingston, Montréal and Ottawa.
