Orange is a small city in Orange County, about 30 miles southeast of Los Angeles, built around a one-square-mile historic district of roughly 1,300 buildings from the 1870s onward. It is a walking-and-antiques stop, not a theme-park base: Disneyland is in neighbouring Anaheim. Most travellers see Old Towne in half a day and use Orange as a quieter, cheaper bed for the Anaheim and Irvine corridor.

Get around
Old Towne is walkable — park once and cover the Plaza on foot. For everything else you need a car: the 5, 22, 55, 57 and 91 freeways meet around the city. Metrolink's Orange County and Inland Empire lines stop at Orange Station (194 N Atchison St), about a 10-min walk from the Plaza, useful for Los Angeles and San Diego day trips.
