Orange Beach
Give Orange Beach 3 nights: beach mornings, boat or boardwalk afternoons, seafood dinners. Come May–Sep for water, Oct for quiet and lower rates.
Orange Beach is a small Gulf Coast resort town on a barrier island between Gulf Shores and the Florida line, with white sand, calm shallow water and a strip of condos, marinas and seafood bars along Perdido Beach Boulevard. It is quieter and often cheaper than the Florida panhandle beaches an hour east. Most visitors come for the beach itself, plus fishing charters, the Wharf entertainment district and Gulf State Park next door. A car is close to essential.

Get around
A car is the practical default: the strip is about 10 km (6.2 mi) end to end with no useful bus. Beach Blvd (Hwy 182) runs along the water and Canal Road (Hwy 180) along the Intracoastal. Parking is free at many public beach accesses but fills by mid-morning in summer. Bikes and golf carts work on short flat hops; taxis and rideshare exist but are thin late at night.A car is the practical default: the strip is about 6.2 mi (10 km) end to end with no useful bus. Etiquette, safety and scams
Etiquette
- Greeting: Handshake and 'hi, how are you?' — reply 'good, thanks'; avoid: Treating the question as a real health enquiry
- Restaurants: Tip 18–22% and wait for the check; avoid: Leaving without tipping
- Personal space: Keep an arm's length in queues; avoid: Standing close to strangers
- Politics and religion: Listen more than you speak; avoid: Opening with hot-button topics
- Smoking: Smoke only in marked areas; avoid: Smoking near doors or in parks where banned
Scams and watch-outs
- Rip currents are the real danger: obey the beach warning flag system and stay out of the water on double-red days.
- Hurricane season runs Jun–Nov; have a plan to leave and check forecasts before booking nonrefundable rooms.
- Summer heat and humidity are severe; hydrate and use shade midday.
- Some condo rentals add cleaning and resort fees that change the nightly total; read the full quote.
- The Alabama–Florida line runs through the Flora-Bama property; drinking rules and taxes differ by side.
The beach is the risk, not the town: rip currents kill more people here than crime does. Follow the flag system, keep valuables out of sight on the sand, and lock the car.
