Ontario is the largest town in far eastern Oregon, about 12,000 people on the Snake River at the Idaho line. It is a road-trip waypoint on I-84 rather than a destination: a museum, a state park on the river, cheap chain beds and the last Oregon fuel before Idaho. You need a car. I-84 runs around the north and east of town with exits at SR-201 (374) and E Idaho Ave (376). Local buses (Malheur County Transportation District) run in town and to Vale and Nyssa on weekdays; the Snake River Transit Hub at 842 SE 1st Ave is the bus stop for Eastern Oregon Point and Grant County People Mover.
