Ondo City is the second city of Ondo State and the trade town for the cocoa and yam belt around it, about 45 minutes by road from Akure. It is a Yoruba kingdom town with a working palace, a big traditional market and a bridal-dance festival, not a resort. Come for a day of markets and history, sleep one night, and move on to Akure, Owo or Idanre.

Get around
Tricycles (keke) and motorbikes (okada) cover short hops; agree the fare before you get in. For the palace, market and mall spread, a hired car or driver by the day is calmer than chaining keke rides. Roads are right-hand drive and checkpoints are common.
