Omaha is Nebraska's largest city, on the Missouri River across from Iowa, about 486,000 people. Its draw is the Henry Doorly Zoo, the Old Market warehouse district and a compact downtown of free or cheap museums. Most visitors pass through on I-80 or arrive by plane at Eppley Airfield, 5 km from downtown. Two nights covers the core; three if you add Boys Town or a day trip.

Get around
A car is the easiest way: the city is a grid, numbered streets run north–south and rise going west, parking is plentiful and often free outside downtown, and jams are rare. Without a car, stay downtown and use Omaha Metro buses (about $1.25–1.50 adult) plus the ORBT rapid line; a streetcar line was under construction as of 2026. Taxis cannot be hailed on the street — call or use Uber/Lyft.
