Okaya
岡谷市
Skip Okaya unless you are attending the Onbashira Festival or the Taiko Festival: the town has no major sight that justifies a detour from Matsumoto or Suwa.
Okaya is a small industrial city on Lake Suwa, known for its silk and precision machinery. Travellers come for two festivals: the Onbashira Festival (every six years) and the Taiko Festival (August). Outside those dates, there is little to see and the town is best skipped in favour of nearby Matsumoto, Suwa or Karuizawa.
