Oka
Go as a day trip from Montréal, not a base: one full day for Oka National Park beach and the abbey, then back; sleep in Hudson or Vaudreuil-Dorion if you stay.
Oka is a village of about 4,000 on the north bank of the Ottawa River where it meets the Lake of Two Mountains, roughly 50 km west of Montréal. It is known for Oka National Park, the Trappist abbey and its cheese, apple farms in September, and the 1990 Oka Crisis at Kanesatake. The village centre is a few minutes on foot; the park, abbey and waterpark need a car or bike.
