Sleep in Offenbach instead of Frankfurt: S-Bahn to Frankfurt centre in about 15–20 min, one night, half a day for the two museums.
Offenbach sits on the south bank of the Main, directly against Frankfurt's eastern edge, and is joined to it by S-Bahn lines S1, S2, S8 and S9 plus tram lines 15 and 16. It is a former leather-industry town of about 122,000 people with Germany's second-highest share of foreign residents after Frankfurt, which shows up in the food. Its two real sights are the German Leather Museum and the Klingspor Museum of typography and book art; the rest of a visit is the Main riverside, the Wilhelmsplatz market and the club strip on Nordring. Hotel rooms cost less than in Frankfurt, and the trade-off is a 15–20 minute train ride each way.

S-Bahn S1, S2, S8 and S9 link Offenbach to Frankfurt city centre in about 15–20 min; tram lines 15 and 16 run from Frankfurt to the city boundary. Inside Offenbach, buses cover the centre and Marktplatz is the main bus and S-Bahn stop. Buy tickets from the machines at stops or from the bus driver; day and group tickets are sold on board. Everything is in the RMV fare network, so one ticket can cover Frankfurt and Offenbach.
